Vasyl Lomachenko vs Kye MacKenzie
Could Vasyl Lomachenko be heading to Australia?
It is understood that negotiations are underway to bring the best boxer on the planet, Vasyl Lomachenko, to fight at Western Sydney Stadium next year.
Pound-for-pound king Lomachenko would face Penrith’s hard-hitting lightweight Kye Mackenzie in a world title blockbuster in April at the new stadium if the audacious bid comes off. This would be the biggest Boxing event in Australia since Jeff Horn defeated Manny Pacquiao at Suncorp Stadium in July of 2017.
It would also be the first major international sporting event to be held at the new venue and would be a huge Pay Per View event, both domestically and around the world.
The Ukrainian is rated as the best boxer in the world across any weight division, ahead of Terence Crawford and Canelo Alzarez — the Mexican warrior who recently signed a sporting record 11 fight, $513 million contract.
Lomachenko, the 2008 and 2012 Olympic gold medallist, has just 12 professional fights to his name but has stormed through the best in the business to capture world titles at featherweight, junior lightweight and now lightweight.
Mackenzie is already rated as the WBO’s No.3 lightweight, and if he wins his bout on November 30 on the Anthony Mundine-Jeff Horn undercard he’ll likely move to No.1. Packages for this event can be found here
While he would be a massive underdog against the exceptionally skilled Lomachenko (11-1, 9KO), Mackenzie (20-1, 17KO) would be relying on his division-high 81 per cent knockout record to spring the biggest upset in boxing.
“I’m ready for a world title, this is what you dream of as a kid and it’s my chance to change my life,” Mackenzie said.
“Loma is not the world’s best for no reason. He has an unbelievable skill-set that sets apart from everyone.
